This course pertains to the organization, foundation, and functions of government on the Federal, State, and Local levels. It also covers the political process, the rights and responsibilities of the citizenry and an introduction to basic economics.

Course Competencies/ Learning Objectives

Students who successfully complete Civics will be competent in the following areas:

Students will be able to:

  • Discuss the different types of systems and governments
  • Understand the foundations of the United States government
  • Understand and use the founding documents of our government
  • Identify our political parties and understand the process of voting and elections
  • Relate how the three branches of government work together
  • Describe how citizens are involved in our state and local government
