San Jose Prep on our Mandarin campus has developed an award-winning robotics program in grades 6-12. This group has received the Collins Aerospace Innovate Award twice and has achieved runner-up status once. Our robotics students have also qualified for the state completion twice and reached the final round of competition at the Florida state level once. San Jose Prep has been made host of the robotics kickoff and training events for Renaissance JAX, which is the local branch of FIRST.
We will replicate this program at our other campuses as they grow. The program's success is the result of student enthusiasm and dedication by parents, teachers and community members. Robotics brings science and engineering alive. It teaches problem-solving, cooperative learning and interpersonal communication. By default, students use math and language in a fully authentic learning environment. A LEGO Robotics Program will launch for grades K-5.
Drama Club is currently the most popular individual club in our schools. Students participate in the creative process, singing, performing full musicals, writing scripts and poetry, performing skits, creating artwork and building sets, and using advanced technology for sound and lighting. In one location there is already a stage and professional sound system, as well as props students build for various plays. Many of our students also put in the hard work to qualify for the International Thespian Society. Live products have included Into the Woods, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Hairspray and Footloose. Join us in Spring 2022 for Beauty and the Beast.
National Honor Society
Students are celebrated for their academic achievements when they are invited to join the Jr. National Honor Society and National Honor Society. These young people also participate in community service and in leadership roles throughout our schools.
Clubs by popular demand
The COVID-19 pandemic has made it challenging to add new clubs in 2020 and 2021; however, future selection of after-school clubs will be based on demand. Examples may include the arts, careers and technology, world cultures and languages, video games and role playing games.
